State Police Westfield Barracks
- Wheelchair Accessible
Sgt. Thomas Dion Way, Westfield, MA 01085 DirectionsState Police Westfield is situated at the 41-mile marker on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The barracks, which opened its doors in 1957, operated continuously until the early 1970s when the barracks system was disbanded, leading to its conversion into a part-time facility. In the early 1970s, the barracks was even closed and listed for sale by the Turnpike Authority. During this period, officers assigned to patrol the westernmost sector of the area reported to SP Lee, while those covering the easternmost sector reported to the Chicopee Maintenance Facility at the 52-mile marker. However, in 1972, the barracks was reopened as a part-time operation, with a Sergeant overseeing the day shift at the desk. All calls during the evening and midnight shifts were rerouted to SP Charlton, which maintained a 24/7 desk operation. At that time, troopers used station wagons to transport any injured individuals from accidents or those requiring urgent medical care. By 1975, ambulance services were introduced for transporting the injured. SP Westfield transitioned back to a full-time barracks in 1990 and has continued as such ever since.
The troopers of SP Westfield have the critical responsibility of monitoring the westernmost section of the Massachusetts Turnpike, extending from the Ludlow-Chicopee town line to the New York State border.Phone(413) 572-3100-

State Police Weston Barracks
- Wheelchair Accessible
668 South Ave., Weston, MA 02493 DirectionsState Police Weston was constructed in the early 1970s, replacing the Southborough barracks and the old Troop E Headquarters, previously located at Interchange 19, Beacon Park. The primary patrol area for the Weston barracks is on Route I-90, a toll highway, from Interchange 11 in Grafton to Interchange 19 in Brighton. The Massachusetts Turnpike, Route 90, was inaugurated in 1957, spanning 123 miles from New York to Weston and connecting to Route 128. In 1965, the 11-mile Boston Extension linked Route 90 to metropolitan Boston, extending the total length to 134 miles.
SP Weston previously covered the 11-mile Boston Extension until 2002. Today, it provides coverage up to the Allston-Brighton tolls on the Boston Extension, while the Tunnel Division (H-9) holds jurisdiction for the remainder of Route 90 east of IC-19. The Westfield and Charlton sub-stations were staffed full-time in 1990 and 1992, respectively. Before these staffing changes, SP Weston (H-8) managed the operational control of the entire Massachusetts Turnpike (RTE I-90).
Approximately 105,000 vehicles travel on Route 90 into Boston daily, and the troopers of SP Weston offer not only highway patrol but also investigative and public assistance skills. They also assist adjacent city and town police departments along the Turnpike.
Additionally, support and assistance are provided to other state entities, including the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority complex in Weston, and rail services such as the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, Conrail (CSX), and Amtrak, serving Boston and its surroundings.
Despite its heavy traffic, the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route I-90) remains one of the busiest and safest roadways in the nation.Phone(781) 431-5050-
