BOSTON – Today, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio released a Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) report examining the periods of January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026 and April 1, 2026 to June 30, 2026. The report summarizes BSI’s work and initiatives to help make government work better by investigating fraud, abuse, and illegal acts involving public assistance benefits throughout the Commonwealth.
During these periods, BSI investigated a total of 2,223 cases and there were overpayment calculations in 402 cases with identified fraud. Further details regarding these 402 cases may be found below.

“These important programs are meant for the people who need them – not for those looking to game the system,” said Auditor DiZoglio. “When someone commits fraud, they’re taking resources away from the people these programs were created to serve. Our office will continue to work with our partners to identify fraud because taxpayers deserve to have their hard-earned money protected.”
