What you need for Apply for an Alcoholic Beverages Salesman Permit (ABCC)
To apply for a Salesman permit pursuant to M.G.L. c. 138, § 19A you will need electronic copies of the documents listed below.
Required Documents for ALL new Salesman permits:
- Certificate of Employment to be completed by an authorized signatory for the employer of the salesman who is applying. This document is linked at the bottom of this page.
- Proof of State Residency: any one of the following is acceptable: State Driver’s License, State ID Card, State Voter Registration, or a copy of your W-2, a current utility bill (gas, electric, telephone or cable) in your name sent to you at your current address dated within the previous 30 days, or home mortgage, lease, or loan contracts with the customer's name, residential address, and signature (dated within 12 months of application).
If you wish to apply for a transportation permit in addition to the salesman permit:
- Vehicle Registration for each vehicle being permitted.
Please Note: The commission requires all salesman applications to be signed by the salesman. Salesman applications that are not signed by the salesman will be rejected and refunded.

More information about this license type:
- If the salesman wishes to transport samples, they must obtain a transportation and delivery permit.
- The transportation and delivery permit is built into the salesman application, all the applicant need to do is "Add a Row" on the "Vehicle Information" table in the application.
- An individual can only get a salesman permit if the "parent" license is one of the following: Wholesaler, Farmer Brewery, Farmer Winery, Farmer Distillery, Manufacturer, or Broker.
- If you are a Certificate of Compliance holder, you must obtain an Broker license in order to have salesman in Massachusetts.
- You need to be a Massachusetts resident to be eligible for a salesman permit, but U.S. citizenship is not required.
