The Communication Access, Training, and Technology Services (CATTS) Department serves as the public's primary resource at MCDHH for information related to deafness and hearing loss.
Common inquiries include details on MCDHH services, hearing loss statistics, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), relevant state and federal communication access laws and their applicability in specific situations. Additionally, we frequently receive questions about hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive listening devices, support services for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, interpreter/CART services, and on the creation of accessible vlogs with ASL and captions.
CATTS also provides:
• Training and Technical Assistance: We offer training on communication access best practices, including the implementation of assistive technology and auxiliary aids and services, at no charge to public and private entities. This includes site evaluations and recommendations to ensure compliance with the ADA and related laws, considering the highly individual nature of each Deaf or hard of hearing person’s accommodation needs and their respective environments.
• Publications and Informational Materials: CATTS produces materials like the Modern Guide to Hearing Loss, the COVID-19 Communication Card, the Visor Card for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Drivers, and the Emergency Services Card for first responders.
