What Massachusetts Drivers Need to Know About Real ID.
Is my license still valid? Yes. Recent news about the Real ID Act, a federal law mandating compliance with specific standards on all driver's licenses, has made customers wonder about the license/ID they already have. News reports suggested that as early as May, 2008, driver's licenses would not be valid for airport travel or to enter a federal building.
The Massachusetts driver's license is still valid. The Commonwealth has asked for, and received, an extension until December 2009 as it determines ultimate compliance with the REAL ID Act. No changes to the Massachusetts' license, or access with a license, will immediately occur.
