DLS' Asbestos and Environmental Lead Laboratory (The Lab) provides analytical and technical support to engineers and inspectors within the department, as well as public agencies. Samples are collected from workplaces throughout the Commonwealth.  They are evaluated to assist in the identification, and subsequent control and elimination of hazards in the workplace.

Qualifications

The Lab is a participant in the Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (Asbestos PLM), and the Environmental Lead Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (paint chips, dust wipes, air, soil) administered by the American Industrial Hygiene Association.

The DLS Asbestos and Environmental Lead Laboratory accepts samples collected by properly trained individuals on behalf of municipal and state agencies only. Information on air and wipe sample collection may be obtained by contacting the lab directly.
