U.S. Army

F. Martha Green

Rank: Captain
MOS: Nurse
Years of Service: 1967 - 1970

Martha's story is courageous and resilient, shaped by her service as an active-duty nurse in the Army Nursing Corps during the height of the Vietnam War. Stationed at the 312th Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai, Vietnam, Martha's dedication to her duties led her to Wards 4A & B, where she provided critical care to wounded soldiers.

However, Martha's service was not without its trials. On the morning of June 8, 1969, tragedy struck when a mortar attack targeted the hospital. Though Martha emerged physically unharmed, the attack claimed the life of her fellow nurse, 1stLt Sharon Lane.

Despite her harrowing experiences, Martha's commitment to her duty and her fellow soldiers remained unwavering. Her courage in the face of adversity is a testament to the sacrifices made by medical personnel during the conflict. Today, Martha's story is a poignant reminder of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by those who serve on the front lines of war.
