Overview of Consumer Protection Panel
The Office of Consumer Affairs (OCABR) is co-hosting a virtual Consumer Protection Panel with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Topics of discussion will focus on the most common scams currently targeting Commonwealth consumers such as COVID related scams, Social Security scams, phone scams, phishing scams, and unemployment benefits scams. Panelist will also discuss the up-and-coming trend of Crypto scams. Participants will learn how to avoid being scammed, what to do if they become a victim of a scam, and overall ways that consumers can protect themselves from ongoing fraud like identity theft.
