Joint Task Force On The Underground Economy and Employee Misclassification

This Task Force is charged with coordinating the efforts of several state agencies to stamp out fraudulent employment activities and bring those workers under the protective umbrella of statutes and regulations that protect their rights and ensure a safe working environment. In addition, the Task Force will be working to bring those employers who skirt the laws of the Commonwealth into compliance and create a level playing field for all businesses to compete and contribute to the economic well-being of our state.

Unemployment Insurance Fraud

Protecting the integrity of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program is a responsibility that the Massachusetts Division of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) takes seriously. DUA focuses on the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of those who defraud or attempt to defraud the unemployment insurance program.

UI fraud is committed when workers collect UI benefits while working full-time, or employers pay workers and do not report wages. Concerned citizens are encouraged to report any incident of UI fraud by email, phone, online form or letter.
