The United States has a long history as a nation that welcomes refugees and immigrants. Refugees arrive in the U.S. through the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), a U.S. foreign policy that is based on values and serves as a symbol of hope for individuals who are persecuted globally. Upon arrival, all refugees are eligible for a comprehensive health assessment which is tailored to meet their unique experiences and needs. In Massachusetts, the Department of Public Health plays an important role in coordinating medical screening services for refugees arriving in the state.
