Metro Motor Sales, Inc. of Worcester Pays $3,010 Penalty for Violating Air Pollution Control Requirements
Metro Motor Sales, Inc., located at 27-33 Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, will pay a $3,010 penalty to the Commonwealth for violating Air Pollution Control regulations. The site is operated as Pat's Service Center, a fuel dispensing and auto repair facility.
During an inspection conducted in September of last year, personnel from the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) determined that the company had failed to perform timely in-use compliance tests on its Stage II gasoline vapor recovery system, failed to train staff in the proper operation of the Stage II vapor recovery system, and failed to properly maintain system spill buckets free of gasoline, water and debris.
In a consent order finalized with MassDEP, the company agreed to comply with all applicable regulations, and pay the penalty.
"This company has failed to perform timely compliance testing on a repeated basis," said Lee Dillard Adams, deputy director for MassDEP's Central Regional Office in Worcester. "Proper and timely testing of the recovery system ensures vapors are properly collected."
MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
