Trial Court Issues Second Quarter Metrics
Report
Chief Justice for Administration & Management
Robert A. Mulligan has issued the Trial Court Metrics
Report with results through the second quarter of 2008.
In addition, the Massachusetts Trial Court has been
invited to report on its Court Metrics initiative at
this month’s annual conference of the Association
of Canadian Court Administrators.
The results through the second quarter
of 2008 reflect that the Trial Court:
| * |
cleared
cases at the rate of 98% |
| * |
disposed of 89.6%
of cases within established time standards |
| * |
reduced the number
of pending cases beyond time standards by 4.6%;
and |
| * |
conducted 79.2%
of all trials by the second trial date. |
“Our results through the second quarter reflect tremendous effort by many
court employees across all departments,” said Chief Justice Mulligan. “We
continue to make good progress in using these measurement tools to better manage
court resources. I particularly commend our Judges and Clerks across the state
for their success in reducing the aged cases pending beyond time standards from
more than 177,000 at the end of 2005 to 70,000 by mid-2008.”
These four measurements on the timely
disposition of cases were introduced in 2006 to enhance
the quality of the delivery of justice. Objective measures
of court performance reflect the Trial Court’s
transformation to using empirical data to increase
accountability and inform management decisions. The
quarterly report details the goals and results by Trial
Court Department.
