The MDAR Resource Management Program will help develop approaches to prevent or solve agricultural waste problems. Will provide resource guide and promote Manure/Compost Management and utilization in Massachusetts. The MDR through the program will work with Massachusetts agricultural industry to determine concerns, interest and opportunities to enhance and increase recycling and utilization of agricultural waste materials. Promote the development and use of environmentally acceptable agricultural waste management systems; including compost and manure management and other waste handling, storage, treatment and disposal. Develop and deliver up-to-date and innovative technical information to agencies and the agriculture industry regarding waste management.
According to General Laws of Massachusetts Chapter 128, Section 1 A, “ Farming or agricultures shall include farming in all its branches and cultivation, growing and harvesting of any agricultural, floricultural or horticultural commodities, the growing and harvesting of forest land, the raising of livestock including horses, the keeping of horses as a commercial enterprise, the keeping and raising of poultry, swine, cattle and other domesticated animals used for food purposes, bees, fur bearing animals, and any forestry or lumbering operations, performed by a farmer, who is herby defined as one engaged in agriculture or farming as herein defined, or on farm as an incident to or in conjunction with such farming operations, including preparations for market, delivery to storage or to market or to carriers for transportation to market”
And defined by Economic Research Service (ERS) as “ A farm is currently defined for statistical purposes, as any place from which $ 1,000 or more of agricultural products (crops and livestock) were sold or normally would have been sold during the year under consideration.”
And finally according to Chapter 61 A: Section 12 & Chapter 61.
